Certificate/Degree in Polymer Processing

Are you interested in gaining a qualification in plastics, without leaving your job?

Would you like to attend online lectures when and where you want?

Are you comfortable using the internet and email?

Would you like to gain credit/exemptions for programmes that you have already completed with First Polymer Training?

Would you like to gain credit/exemptions for study already undertaken or for work experience achieved?

If so then we have the programme for you. We have two part-time programmes.

  1. Certificate in Polymer Technology – Level 6
  2. B. Engineering in Polymer Processing – Level 7

PROGRAMME TITLE:  Certificate in Polymer Technology

LEVEL:   6

DURATION:     1 YEAR- PART-TIME- PRIMARILY ONLINE. (September – May).

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:   LEVEL 5 Qualification (Leaving Certificate) and preferably be working in the industry with a technical aptitude. For those who do not have the required entry qualification RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) may apply.

FEES:  €2450 or €1225 per semester

FUNDING:    20% available via your employer from First Polymer Training. €1960 total cost or €980 per semester. If you decide to apply and are accepted please let us know (before paying a deposit) if you wish to avail of funding.

PROGRAMME DETAILS   The subjects covered in this year-long programme are

Mathematics (5 Ects*),

CIM & Automation Technology (10 Ects),

Plastics Materials and Processing (10 Ects) 

Plastics Material Selection (10 Ects)  

*Ects are credits. The two polymer modules above are delivered by First Polymer Training.                                                                        

Online lectures are generally delivered 2-3 evenings per week. This programme also requires attendance on six practical days (normally Fridays/Saturdays – there are 2 days in Sligo and 1 day in Athlone each semester) during the year and there will be an induction day in September  in IT Sligo to allow candidates to familiarise themselves with accessing online lectures and meet the course co-ordinator, lecturers and fellow students. If a student misses any live lectures, they are all recorded and can be accessed later and are available for the full year for students to review. Exams are scheduled in January and again in May and students have a choice of any one of the following locations- Sligo/Dublin/Cork.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:   Level 6 trade/engineering qualification plus at least 5 years’ experience in industry. For those who do not have the required entry qualification RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) may apply.

FEES:  €3400 or €1700 per semester

FUNDING:    20% available via your employer from First Polymer Training. €2720 total cost per year or €1360 per semester. If you decide to apply and are accepted please let us know (before paying a deposit) if you wish to avail of funding.

Medical Device Manufacturing ( 5 Ects),  Sigma 2 – Statistical Control (5 Ects), Polymer Processing (5 Ects), Energy and Utilities Management (5 Ects), Project (Level 7- 5 Ects), Mathematics (5 Ects), Six Sigma – Quality Tools ( 5 Ects), Computer Aided Design and Modelling (5 Ects), Polymer Tooling : Design and Manufacturing Techniques (5 Ects), CIM & Automation Technology (10 Ects) and Materials for the Polymer Industry ( 5 Ects).
