About First Polymer Training
About First Polymer Training Skillnet
First Polymer Training (FPT) Skillnet operates as a training network for the Irish Plastics Industry and is funded under the government's Skillnet initiative. The aim of FPT Skillnet is to deliver training that is focused on the specific needs of the plastics industry and includes certification and development.
Initiated by Plastics Ireland, FPT Skillnet's objective is to provide technical training to polymer processors, both at our centre in Athlone and in-company as required. Our administrative and course centre is now located at 7 Centre Court, Blyry Business and Commercial Park, Athlone.
A full range of plastics processing equipment is available including Fanuc (100 tonne Electric), Arburg (60 tonne Electric) ,Krauss Maffei (100 tonne Hydraulic) and Demag (25 tonne Hydraulic) moulding machines. This allows for intensive hands on training. A new STAR Automation Robot and Sprue Picker have recently been installed to complement our Injection Moulding programmes and new robot/ automation training modules.
How can we meet your company's needs?
First Polymer Training Skillnet organises a calendar of courses which are delivered at our centre in Athlone. These courses are advertised regularly. However, if your company has specific needs we can design a course to meet those needs or modify an existing course to deliver in-company.
Opening Hours
Our office is open from 9.15am to 5.00pm Monday – Thursday and from 9.15am to 4.00pm on Friday.

First Polymer Training - Protection For Learners Policy
First Polymer Training has systems in place through its FETAC Quality Assurance Agreement - Policy B7 – Procedure B7.1 to ensure that learners are protected and a system is in place to detail arrangements in the event of a programme ceasing unexpectedly. This is usually more appropriate where programmes are of longer duration than those currently provided by First Polymer Training, but nonetheless the interests and protection of the learner are paramount to our network.
