FPT Courses - Design of Experiments

DESIGN OF EXPERIMENTS

Cost:

€700 (10% discount for Plastic Ireland Members) Inclusive of course manual, lunch and refreshments.

This 2 day course will give Engineers/Technicians involved in process improvement a comprehensive understanding of the benefits, details and implementation of the design of Experiments technique. DOE is a method of completing machine trails, process testing etc in a very structured manner to gain maximum information about processes, problems and quality issues using minimum engineering trials/machine time. By completing a small number of runs, data is analysed to compare the effects of varying a number of parameters against each other, and the interactions between these parameters. Our course practicals use injection moulding equipment and compare the influence of injection speed and screw speed, barrel temperatures, holding pressure and time, decompression and back pressure on moulded part characteristics. This highly practical course develops the theory of Design of Experiments from a basics through to advanced techniques, demonstrating in a production environment the many pitfalls to completing a good experiment, including:

How to select the right process parameters(factors) to use, and pitfalls to watch out for,

How to ensure errors are minimised by good experimental procedures,

How to ensure test equipment is suitable, and common issues in this area.

Fast checks to make sure the process has stabilised between runs.

Delegates will learn:

·          How to Optimise Quality characteristics

·          Understanding of the need for experimentation and different approaches to experimentation

·          A shot background to Designed Experiments and how they work so well

·          The use of orthogonal arrays(structured selection of tests to run, to minimise the amount of testing needed)

·          The method of analysis of DOE results

·          Understanding tan optimising for variation

 PROGRAMME CONTENT

·          Orthogonal Arrays

·          Procedures for organising projects

·          Analysing for mean

·          Two and three level experiments

·          Use of interactions

·          Practical approaches to problems with running DOE’s in plastics

·          Analysing for variation

·          Optimising attribute characteristics

Practical project on an injection moulding machine.

This course is now FETAC certified and candidates can complete the FETAC examination which comprises of a short written examination and an assignment - successfully completed this counts as one credit towards our Vocational Certificate in Polymer Processing.Certification is included in the course costs.
