Plastic Part Design - Introduction
Course Dates
01 November 2010 - 03 November 2010This course is now FETAC certified and candidates can complete the FETAC examination which comprises of a short written examination and an assignment - successfully completed this counts as one credit towards our Vocational Certificate in Polymer Processing.Certification is included in the course costs.
COURSE OVERVIEW
The intensive course provides an overview of the way in which the design of plastic products is influenced by the specific properties of plastics materials and the manner by which these products are made. It shows how, through a knowledge of material and machine behaviour, a designer can incorporate into the product features which make it economic, practical and new.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Plastic part and mould designers, R&D engineers, or any plastic processing technical staff wishing to update their understanding of plastic part design.
COST:
€ 995 (10% discount for Plastic Ireland Members) Inclusive of course manual, lunch and refreshments.
The course will also cover relevant aspects of the design of shaping tools for plastic manufacture and investigate the potential problems and pitfalls which can be avoided by good design. There will be ample opportunity for discussion on both general principles and on specific designs.

*This programme is a FETAC component (minor) award, certified at Level 5 on the national framework of qualifications (www.nfq.ie ).
The assessment at the end of the programme, if successfully completed, will lead to one credit towards a major(compound) award, of which 8 credits are needed in total. Please see How to achieve a FETAC major award with FPT. Some of our programmes have assignments as part of the assessment which should be completed by the learner after the programme has finished. Full instructions, timelines and ongoing guidance will be given by the course tutor. Most assessments are completed during the programme and results will be made available to learners as soon as they have gone through our Quality Assurance procedures and final submission to FETAC.

Engineers Ireland CPD Scheme
In 2009, FPTS became a registered training provider with Engineers Ireland, recognising FPTS as a training provider who offers relevant learning oppurtunities for the career development of Engineers Ireland (EI) members.
Each FPTS course attended allows EI members to gain credits under the CPD scheme.
