A LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD for Paul Blackie

Paul Black and Declan O'Rourke IOM 2015

The Institute of Materials, Irish Branch, awarded the accolade of Lifetime Achievement Award to Paul Blackie for his long and dedicated service to the Plastics Industry  – Paul Blackie is the first recipient of this Lifetime Achievement Award.

Paul, in his role as senior lecturer in the Polymer Department at Athlone Institute of Technology has passed over 700 students through his hands during a thirty one year career.

Paul has maintained constant contact with many of his former students and has mentored many of us as we forged a career in the Industry. Paul’s knowledge of what is going on in the Plastics Industry in Ireland has been invaluable to many of us on many an occasion.

Paul started his career at Dunlop on Merseyside in 1964, and soon after became a member of the Plastics & Rubber Institute, which subsequently became part of the IOM.

He moved to Ireland in 1979, the UK Industries loss was certainly Ireland’s gain,  because he brought with him a thorough knowledge of Polymer processes and techniques.

Over the years Paul has served as a Committee Member, Chairman and is currently serving as Hon. Secretary since 2008

Declan O’Rourke (Chairman of the IOM) was delighted to present this award on behalf of all his colleagues and friends in the Irish Polymer Industry and the members of the Institute of Materials, at the IOM Seminar on 23rd April 2015.
